What inspired you to start studying Arabic?
I have chosen to study Arabic because I think it is very important to learn the language of the country where you are. I have lived in other countries and studying the language is something that has always helped me to integrate. Also, because of my job, not everyone spoke English and I wanted to be able to communicate with everyone.

What has your experience been like at UCAN?
My experience at UCAN has been very positive. Marina (my teacher) has always shown a great interest in teaching and helping us to learn. She has always helped me in everything I have needed and the classes have always been very well prepared. Hanan has also helped me to have flexible hours that have allowed me to adapt at all times to continue learning.

Tell us one of your favorite experiences or memories at UCAN?
Meet people from around the world with a common goal like learning Arabic. In the class we were 4 people of totally different nationalities and cultures and this also enriches the experience.

How has this program impacted your daily life or career?
First of all, it has helped me with something as simple as being able to go shopping. Feel safe and communicate with sellers. It has also helped me to improve social relationships having basic conversations in Arabic. Finally, it has helped me, in my work speeches, since I had a solid base of the language that has allowed me to be self-taught and learn faster.

What would you tell someone who is considering studying at UCAN? What should other potential students know?
The first thing you have to be clear about is your motivation to learn the language. For example, for work, to meet new friends, to integrate into the culture, to be able to feel safe in your day to day when you move around Cairo... If you are know which is your motivation, it will always help you when you think that the language is very difficult. And then, studying it every day a little, and trying to put it into practice as soon as you leave class ... it does not make much sense to know the whole theory if later you are shy to speak it ... there is nothing better than learning a new language. Finally, I would like to add that all the UCAN staff are amazing professional workers!
