They share why you should “jump in with both feet” if you’re considering taking Arabic!
What inspired you to start studying Arabic?
My husband and I moved to Egypt so he could start a company. We knew before we came that we would want to be able to speak to people in order to get around and live life. However, after being here for a short time we knew that we wanted to be able to communicate with people deeply and on a heart level so that we could understand, not only their words, but their lives.
What has your experience been like at UCAN?
My experience at UCAN was wonderful! I made lasting friendships with those that work at UCAN. The staff is so very helpful and encouraging.
One of my favorite experiences at UCAN was around Christmas one year. Getting to meet others that were studying Arabic and other teachers and staff was really good. We also got to eat some interesting food and play some fun games!
UCAN has made my life here in Egypt so much easier. Before I came to UCAN I was afraid to even attempt speaking to someone on the phone in Arabic. Now it is a daily activity.
Before UCAN, I would avoid doing certain things in Egypt or going to certain areas without a native speaker. Now I am self-sufficient and can go anywhere and do it all.
“If you had told me before UCAN that I would be able to teach healthcare classes in Arabic I would laugh at you. But that is exactly what I do now.”
What would you tell someone who is considering studying at UCAN? What should other potential students know?
I would tell those considering studying at U-Can to “go for it” and to “jump in with both feet.” You will find and caring group of teachers and staff that really want to see you succeed! Just do it!
