Meet Katherine Jaiteh from the UK . She lives in Dubai and started her online Arabic course 4 months ago.

What inspired you to start studying Arabic?
My husband! He is Egyptian and although we can speak English together, I'd like to be able to speak with him in his own language. And be able to speak to more of my in-laws :)

What has your experience been like at UCAN?
Very good, I look forward to my classes and I really feel like I'm making progress at a pace that suits me.

Tell us one of your favorite experiences or memories at UCAN?
The best thing for me is that I can learn Egyptian Arabic and that I can learn online because now I'm living in the UAE.

How has this program impacted your daily life or career?
First example: I've already been able to have more meaningful conversations in Arabic with my husband and non-English speaking in-laws :).

Second example: I teach English in the UAE and many of my students are Arabic speakers, so learning Arabic myself has really helped me to understand my students better and why they make certain mistakes or excel in learning English.

Third example: I'm starting to understand more of what I hear on TV and around me in the city which makes me feel more at home. 😊

What would you tell someone who is considering studying at UCAN? What should other potential students know?
I'd tell them to DO IT! It's very friendly, flexible and fun.
